My Portfolio

My path to financial freedom isn't about chasing hot stock tips or getting rich quick. It's about having a simple, disciplined strategy and sticking to it. As Peter Lynch, one of the greatest investors of all time, once said:

...the important skill here is not listening, it’s snoring. The trick is not to learn to trust your gut feelings, but rather to discipline yourself to ignore them. Stand by your stocks as long as the fundamental story of the company hasn’t changed.

This is the exact mindset that guides my investment journey. Instead of being swayed by market noise, I've built a portfolio based on a clear, 3-step framework.

My Goal: A Growing Passive Income Stream

My main objective is to build a portfolio that generates enough passive income to live off of. This would allow me to retire early and, just as importantly, leave the portfolio intact so that it can continue to grow and become a source of generational wealth for my kids. This single, driving goal influences every investment decision I make.

My Timeline: Ten Years to Financial Freedom

I'm 43, and like many people, I feel a bit late to the party. But I believe it's never too late to start. My plan is to reach financial independence within the next 10-12 years, which means my strategy is built for a clear and defined sprint to the finish line.

My Strategy: Dividend Growth with an Income Boost

To achieve my 10-year goal, I'm focused on a strategy that combines stability, growth, and compounding into one powerful plan. My portfolio is a mix of two primary investment types:

  • Dividend-Growing Companies: These companies provide the reliable income stream I'm after, and they also increase their dividends over time, which accelerates the growth of my passive income. (~80% of my portfolio)

  • Covered Call Funds: These funds act as an "income booster" by generating additional cash flow, helping me grow the portfolio faster without taking on excessive risk. (~20% of my portfolio)

I own 20 individual stocks and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs)

Recently, I started to contribute $100 every day into 6 Funds that fit my strategy the best. These include:

  • SCHD - Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF (Dividend Growth)

  • CGDV - Capital Group Dividend Value ETF (Dividend Growth)

  • FDVV - Fidelity High Dividend ETF (Dividend Growth)

  • SPYD - SPDR Portfolio S&P 500 High Dividend ETF (Dividend Growth)

  • RDVI - FT Vest Rising Dividend Achievers ETF (Cover Call)

  • RLTY - Cohen & Steers Real Estate Opportunities CEF (Real Estate)

The Power of the Wealth Snowball

This strategy is built on the principle of the "Wealth Snowball." By consistently reinvesting dividends early on, every dollar I invest today can turn into much more over time. And when markets get volatile (because they always do), the dividends give me peace of mind. While others might panic and sell during a downturn, I can stay calm, collect my income, and wait for things to recover.
